A bridge from the past to the future

Film was the defining medium of the 20th century. Now, millions of hours of analogue film are lying in archives around the world – almost inaccessible to the public.

Barbara Flückiger has, as part of her BRIDGE Discovery project " Scan2Screen. Development of an Automated Workflow for the Digitization of Archival Film" studied technical methods for digitising historical films and photos in colour. Together with her interdisciplinary team, she has developed a process that allows films to be scanned multispectrally and therefore physically correctly. Based on this innovative digitisation process, the film scientist founded the start-ups Scan2Screen Switzerland and Scan2Screen US LLC.

Scan2Screen's new technological approach provides unique access to our cultural and historical heritage, building a bridge from the past to the future. This allows audiences to experience films as they did when they were first shown.
